Window Replacement Process — What Utah Homeowners Can Expect
Window replacement is less disruptive than most homeowners expect. Here's the sequence.
Residential Windows Projects
Estimate and Selection
We measure every opening, assess frame condition, note accessibility and finish requirements, and discuss your performance goals and budget. We bring window samples — full-size corner sections so you can feel the frame weight, examine the hardware, and see the glass clarity. You receive a written per-window quote, typically within 24 hours.
Custom Order Lead Time
Replacement windows are custom-manufactured to your rough opening dimensions. Lead time is 3–6 weeks depending on the manufacturer and product line. We schedule installation for shortly after confirmed delivery. Rushing this step is not possible — the windows are made to order.
Installation Day
Our crew works one opening at a time, never leaving an open hole in your home's envelope. For insert installations: we remove the old sashes and trim stops, clean the existing frame, install the new window unit, shim level and plumb, insulate the gap with low-expansion foam, reinstall interior stops and trim, and caulk the exterior. Each window takes 2–4 hours. We work in occupied homes with minimal disruption.
Final Inspection and Warranty Registration
We test operation of every window before leaving: open, close, latch, and for casements — crank test. We caulk all exterior joints and inspect interior trim. We register your warranty with the manufacturer and provide you the documentation with your final invoice.
Common Questions
- Do I need to move furniture or remove interior trim?
- We handle all interior trim removal and reinstallation. Move furniture away from the window area by 3–4 feet so we have room to work. Fragile items on interior sills should be removed before we arrive.
- Can windows be replaced in winter?
- Yes, and we do it regularly. Each opening is closed within a few hours. We use low-expansion foam formulated for cold-weather installation. There's no minimum temperature for window installation.
- Will my new windows need to be painted?
- Vinyl windows don't require painting. Fiberglass windows come factory-primed and can be painted any exterior color within a few months of installation. Interior surfaces of both materials are paintable if you want to match interior trim colors.
