Leaking seams at corners and outlets can often be resealed with gutter sealant — a $150–$300 repair that buys years on an otherwise functional system. Separated downspout sections, loose spikes, and bent hangers are all straightforward fixes. If your gutters are less than 15 years old and the profile is intact, targeted repairs are usually the right call.
When Replacement Makes More Sense
Widespread sagging (meaning the gutter has pulled away from the fascia in multiple locations) usually indicates the fascia board itself is deteriorating — you're not just replacing gutters, you're addressing rot. Sectional gutters with multiple failing seams are better replaced with seamless. Gutters that are undersized for your roof area — a common problem in Utah homes — can't be repaired into performing better; they need to be sized up. Any time total repair cost exceeds 50% of replacement cost, replacement almost always wins.
Fascia Condition: The Hidden Variable
Gutters mount to the fascia board. If the fascia is rotted, new gutters won't hold. We always inspect the fascia before quoting gutters and include fascia repair in the scope if needed. Fascia repair runs $6–12/linear foot depending on material and access. It's not optional — gutters attached to soft fascia will pull away within a season.

- Can I repair my own gutters?
- Resealing a leaking corner seam is a reasonable DIY project if you're comfortable on a ladder. Use gutter sealant rated for aluminum, clean the joint thoroughly first, and apply from inside the gutter. Re-pitching a sagging section requires adjusting hanger positions and is harder to do well without experience.
- How do I know if my gutters are pitched correctly?
- Water should drain to the downspout after a rain, not pool in the gutter. If you see standing water in your gutters hours after rain stops, the pitch is insufficient. We can re-pitch an existing system in most cases.
